PUBLIC LIBRARY
Reconversion project of the old Aiguafreda school into the new public library.
The building in question had been in disuse for a few years and the City Council decided to enable it as a library.
The building is composed of a two-storey central nave and two single-storey wings on each side. In its origins, the first floor of the central nave was theteachers' residences and the wings were the classrooms area.
After the change of use, the ground floor of the central nave will become the reception and exhibition space, while the first floor will be used for the workers' offices and the warehouse. The wings will become the study and reading areas. In addition, the wings had a porticoed area, which will be closed to give more space to the study and reading areas.
Apart from modifying the distribution, the false ceilings and roofs will be demolished as well since they were not in very good condition, and it was decided that the new roofs should be seen from the inside to give more spaciousness. A treatment to the walls is also proposed to solve the humidity problems suffered by the building.
Almost all the facilities are new since the originals were very deteriorated and did not meet the appropriate conditions. The finishes were also in poor condition and required a replacement. In addition, it has been decided to give a warmer and more minimalist and modern style. Finally, the windows were also quite old and not well maintained, so it was decided to install new ones with higher features in order to improve the efficiency of the building.
