UNIVERSITARY RESIDENCE

Project for an universitary residence in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea.

The project has a residential building for students and services related in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea.

The design is divided in three parts which correspond to three building typologies. The student apartments (of one, two and four beds) are grouped in five equal buildings. Two other constructions, which are also similar, keep the professor apartments. Finally, the the main building has the community facilities: dining room, bar-cafeteria, gym, auditorium, sports center, study room and computer room.

The different buildings for students are set on the ground, which has a slight slope. They are articulated around a central promenade which crosses the enclosure and begins in the complex entrance, in the main building, where there is a large hall. The professor apartments have an independent entrance located in a lateral side.

The accommodation buildings are built with concrete blocks and painted in white. Small openings are placed both north and south in order to get cross ventilation and trellis are set to protect from sunlight the communal areas, which have more glass surface, and also to provide them more privacy.

The main building has a large glass surface in the facade of the hall which acts as a filter between the interior and the exterior of the enclosure. The facade of the first floor has composite panels and sheets of different shades and the windows are grouped to create large horizontal incisions in the body. Every function of the building has a distinct volumetry so the diversity of the functions are expressed in its shape. In this case, trellis are used to provide privacy to some functions on the ground floor.
