CA N'ORIAC COMPETITION

Competition for the architectural proposal of the rehabilitation of the Masia de Ca n'Oriac located in Sabadell.

The City Council of Sabadell establishes the bases to rehabilitate the Masia as municipal equipment and to construct a new building for Social Services, as well as the organization of the free spaces and its relationship with the immediate public space.

Our idea is based on giving maximum importance to the Masia, so it is proposed to leave it isolated so that it becomes the central point of the new square and the reference equipment of the neighborhood that the neighbors can feel as their own after in disuse for so long. Thus, the Masia building program is fully contemplated for public use.

Regarding the new building, it is proposed to place it confronted with the Masia, which, in addition to covering the mediating wall it faces, allows to create a common public space that extends to the green area on the other side of the street. However, the entrance is arranged on the street's facade, so that it is possible to leave the square closed if desired. At the programmatic level, it is decided to establish the entire public area on the ground floor, leaving the first and second floors exclusively for the use of equipment workers.

Finally, changes are proposed in the surronding streets, which include a change of the pavement for one placed in a single elevation, eliminate the parking area and reduce the speed to 30 km/h. In this way we want to take away the prominence of the vehicles and give it to pedestrians and bicycles and favor the connection with the green zone.
